Wickham Laboratories attended the second annual Gosport Business and Employment Fair on the 24th January. The now annual event is organised and supported by Gosport Borough Council and aims to showcase employment opportunities at key employers within the Gosport pennisular on the South Coast of Hampshire. As well as providing a platform for local people seeking work to meet with prospective employers, the fair also provided advice and support to individuals wishing to improve their CV, discuss apprenticeships opportunities or set up business ventures. Over 600 people passed through the doors and were able to meet and discuss employment opportunities with a varied range of employers representing industries such as engineering, science and technology, healthcare and retail. Wickham was represented by their HR Manager and Business Development Team. It was an excellent opportunity to meet members of the Gosport public and explain what Wickham does and how our work assists the pharmaceutical and medical device industries in ensuring the safety of medicines and devices particularly with regards to their microbiological status. We employ close to 100 personnel mostly in laboratory testing roles and visitors to the Wickham Laboratories stand were often surprised to learn that we have opportunities in our labs for school leavers and those seeking a career change having no previous scientific experience. For Laboratory Assistant roles we look for individuals with good GCSEs or equivalent qualifications in maths, English and a science subject. We expect candidates to be able to demonstrate attention to detail which is vitally important for tasks such as accurate data recording.
