Frequently Asked Questions About COVID-19 Support
Below is a list of some of the most frequently asked questions we’ve seen over the past few months, related to COVID-19.
At Wickham Laboratories, we welcome every enquiry and even if we cannot support your requirements will do our best to find a recommended alternative. Does Wickham Laboratories provide COVID-19 testing?
The answer to this is, it depends! We do not test COVID-19 viral or clinical samples, but we have provided support for the following types of products/devices:
- Respirator/ventilator filters and inhaler components [biocompatibility, sterility, bioburden and biological evaluation reports]
- Vaccine contents / vials [sterility and integrity challenges]
- Medications used to treat the effects of COVID-19 in hospitalised patients [sterility and routine QC testing]
- Cleanroom assessments for vaccine developers and manufacturers [environmental monitoring and qualification, including microbial identification]
Can you tell me if I have or have had COVID-19?
No, unfortunately, we cannot assist in any PCR testing to diagnose current COVID-19 viral status or for the presence of antibodies.
Does Wickham Laboratories sell or manufacture PPE?
As a contract laboratory, we would only be involved in the testing of PPE. We may be able to test new types of PPE for biocompatibility, bacterial barrier or proof of concept against certain microbial challenges so get in touch if you require assistance in development.
Does Wickham Laboratories test hand sanitiser/disinfectants?
We can test some disinfectants and sanitisers against bacterial kill rates, however, we do not currently conduct any testing using viruses or viral surrogates.
Does Wickham Laboratories provide consumer testing?
At this time, we provide support primarily to pharmaceutical, medical device and other companies within the healthcare industry. But we may be able to refer you to a laboratory who can assist if you’re not sure where else to turn.
Does Wickham Laboratories provide consultation on product/device development?
We do! Our experts, both in house and preferred partners, can assist with considerations in new product design. We are able to provide consultation regarding:
- Environmental monitoring in cleanrooms and manufacturing facilities
- Process validation in manufacturing
- Appropriate cleaning practices and identification of contamination sources
- Biological evaluation (both literature reviews and potential testing requirements) of medical devices
